(04/25/06) EWING ? State police announced Tuesday there has been a ?significant development? in the case of missing College of New Jersey freshman John Fiocco Jr.
Police say the body of a white male was pulled from a landfill in Tullytown, Pennsylvania. Investigators have not confirmed the remains are Fiocco?s body. Police have been searching the landfill as part of the case since April 1. Fiocco was last seen at his dorm after returning from an off-campus party on March 25.
Investigators found blood in and around the garbage area of the dorm building, which led them to the landfill. Police say Fiocco may have traveled down a trash chute into a bin. However, no blood was found in the trash chute itself. Fiocco is from Mantua Township.
Police will not make an official announcement about the body's identification until Wednesday. However, Fiocco's uncle read a prepared statement in which he said the family was in mourning. He also thanked police for bringing closure to the case.
