Police made an unusual discovery when they were called to Maple Lake Campground - a 2-foot-long alligator.
Jackson police say that they took a call about an alligator in the lake at the campground on East Veteran's Highway Monday afternoon. Jackson animal control helped capture the animal.
Police say that the alligator is an American Alligator and has the potential to grow 8-11 feet long. It is believed that a Jackson resident had the gator as a pet and released it into the lake after it got too big.
The New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife has been contacted to find out what to do with the alligator.
