An Ocean County police chief says that his hobby and a chance purchase five years ago may pay off in a big way.
Seaside Heights Police Chief Tommy Boyd says that when he is not serving and protecting the community, he collects autographs. Boyd is now in possession of what he says is believed to be the final two signatures of President John F. Kennedy.
The chief says that he bought a notebook in 2014 that contained two signatures from the late president hours before he was assassinated in Dallas. Kennedy signed the book for a young airman stationed at Carswell Air Force Base. Boyd says that he was watching a documentary on JFK's final hours when he made the connection.
“As I am sitting there watching it on my big screen TV I saw JFK holding my notebook in his hand and I went, ‘I can’t believe it. That’s my notebook,’ because I knew he signed it at Carswell Air Force Base,” Boyd says.
Boyd says that he had the notebook examined by experts who authenticated the signatures. He says that the time is right to sell it.
