Police are done searching for the missing remains of a Jersey City baby believed to have been thrown in the hospital trash.
Authorities had been combing through garbage dumps in Pennsylvania and New Jersey looking for the body of Bashere Moyd Jr. since Jan. 2. The Jersey City police chief says the search was called off because it was a "Herculean undertaking" with little chance of finding the body.
Christ Hospital officials say the child was delivered stillborn on Dec. 21.
Police say the body was thrown out sometime between Dec. 21 and Dec. 22. It was realized the infant's remains were missing when a funeral home worker attempted to pick them up. According to police, the trash containing the body may have been hauled by train to Kentucky already.
No evidence of criminal wrongdoing by the hospital has been found by police.
