(05/01/06) UNION CITY ? Federal investigators say they?ve broken up a suspected human trafficking ring with ties to Union City.
Police arrested Jose Louis Notario Guzman and his younger brother, Ignacio, in connection with the incident. More than 60 individuals have also been detained. Investigators say the two brothers brought women to the United States from Mexico to work as prostitutes. According to police, the brothers used an apartment in Union City as a safe house for some of the women on weekends.
The two brothers appeared in federal court Monday. Jose is charged with harboring the women in Union City, Ignacio is charged with illegally transmitting money to Mexico. Neither of the brothers have been charged with prostitution. Police are continuing their investigation to find out who else is involved with the suspected operation.
