Emergency rescue divers say they pulled a man?s body from the Passaic River Saturday afternoon.
According to police, the crash happened around 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The driver was traveling northbound on Route 21 when he crashed his white commercial van into the guardrail and flipped into the Passaic River near exit 6 in Belleville.
A witness says at least three people climbed down into the river and on top of the van to try to help the man escape the sinking vehicle. Rescue workers used the Jaws of Life to finally remove the man?s body, which has yet to be identified.
Police have yet to determine how many people were inside the vehicle when it crashed.
