Police: Bayville man was intoxicated in fatal boating incident

A 64-year-old Bayville man was charged in connection with a fatal boating incident in Barnegat Bay that killed two children.

The children, a 9-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy, were thrown overboard after the boat struck a navigational marker.

Officials say Stephen Schneider was under the influence while driving the vessel.

Schneider surrendered to police at the Berkeley Township Police Department on Friday.

He was charged with two counts of reckless vessel homicide/death by vessel, a second-degree offense, as well as operating a vessel under the influence and reckless operation of a vessel.
