Parents in Bayville received a brief scare this morning as they were sending their kids off to the first day of school when reports of a potentially dangerous suspect near the Clara Worth Elementary School led to a large police response.
Police say they had reports around 7:15 a.m. of an incident in the Dolphin Circle neighborhood that possibly involved weapons and an injured person. Police and the school district sent into action a plan that rerouted kids to another school until the threat was over.
Just before 8:30 a.m., police said the incident was unfounded -- no weapons, no suspect -- and school was allowed to open as scheduled. Taylor Veve says the action plans worked.
“The whole situation I felt very safe,” says Taylor Veve. “Quick police response time, they secured the area very quickly."
A police presence remained at the school. Many parents also shared Veve’s thoughts, praising the Berkeley Township police on their social media pages over the response at the school.
