Police in New Brunswick have arrested four suspects in an assault where drivers were being targeted by someone shooting a paintball gun.
Officers Tuesday investigated an assault with a paintball gun in the area of Railroad Avenue and another assault in the area of Feaster Park a short time later.
Witnesses were able to describe the suspects’ vehicle, leading to the arrests. According to police, inside the car was a paintball gun, over 50 paintballs and multiple CO2 canisters used to shoot the paintball gun.
The suspects were identified as Angel Cruz, 18, Jose Perez-Leyva, 18, Pedro Vasquez-Toribio, 19, and a 17-year-old juvenile. All are from New Brunswick.
Each adult suspect was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and criminal mischief. The juvenile was charged with juvenile delinquency.
Police say although there was an attempt to cause injury, none were reported in either incident.
Police have been investigating several similar incidents over the last weeks. Detectives continue their investigations to determine if the previous assaults are related to the arrests.
