Six people were hurt when a dump truck crashed into the side of a Target store in North Bergen, according to the police.
Police say the crash happened Friday afternoon. They say a dump truck traveling westbound on 71st Street crossed over into the southbound lanes of Tonnelle Avenue, striking a tractor-trailer before colliding with the Target store building.
They say the truck was loaded with soil and rocks.
"The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle or his breaks," said North Hudson Regional Fire Chief David Donnarumma.
Officials say that of the six injuries, two are considered serious. They say that all but one of the injured were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
Among the injured were the dump truck driver and a woman who was in the restroom inside the Target at the time of the crash and became trapped. Police say she suffered the most severe injuries.
Tonnelle Avenue is closed in both directions between 70th and 76th streets due to the crash. Police say to anticipate a lot of traffic in the area. The public is asked to avoid the area.
