A 2-year-old girl is in stable condition after being shot in Newark Monday afternoon.
Newark police say that the shooting happened just after 2 p.m. near 14th Avenue and South Sixth Street.
“Our detectives have determined that this was a targeted incident. Unfortunately, a child has become a victim,” Newark Police Director Brian O’Hara said in a statement. “Thankfully, it appears she will recover from her injuries and there is no danger to the community.”
It was not believed that the child was the intended target.
News 12 New Jersey has learned that the child was taken to University Hospital in a private vehicle after the shooting.
No arrests have been made.
