A 13-year-old boy from Atlantic County has been accused of creating child pornography and posting the video on Snapchat.
Egg Harbor Township police say that several parents alerted them about the video posted on June 16.
Police say that the video depicted a teenager and a younger child engaging in sexual conduct. They say that the video had been viewed and circulated among the high school and middle school students in the township.
Police identified the 13-year-old as the suspect and took him into custody. The boy was charged with aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police say that they contacted Snapchat and had the video taken down.
“However, we are certain that additional copies of the video were likely created and may still be circulating; both online and through other social media apps and text threads. We ask that parents report the video to Snapchat should you find it circulating at this time,” police wrote in a statement.
Police are urging parents to speak with their children to remind them that possession of videos or images such as this could result in criminal charges.
“We would also caution parents that the content found on social media sites such as Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook is often uncontrolled and loosely monitored; often containing content that is inappropriate for children to view,” police wrote.
Anyone who might have additional information about this incident is urged to contact the authorities.
