The current trends on Wall Street are having major implications on the Arnold Avenue shopping district in Point Pleasant.
Becky VanderNoot, an employee at Point Pleasant's Bath and Body Shop, says her hours have been cut back by a third.
"It's hard especially being a college student ? I want to work as much as possible, but I just can't right now," says VanderNoot.
Stores aren't just cutting employee's hours; they're trimming the hours they operate as well. A vintage clothing store in the district has decided to close its doors on Mondays due to slow foot traffic.
Businesses have also started going under in the town. Among the stores to go out of business in Point Pleasant are an interior design shop, a jewelry and collectibles place and a drug store. A book store in town says it will also soon close its doors.
