A Pelham Bay businessman says storeowners need to pony up now if they want big returns in the future with the city's help.
Joseph Cinquemani, president of the Merchant's Association, wants the area near Crosby and Buhre avenues to become a Business Improvement District (BID). Cinquemani says stores would benefit by getting quicker beautification and sanitation efforts from the city. However, shop owners will have to submit an application to the city. If approved, their taxes and fees would go up, making many reluctant.
Cinquemani feels it's a price worth paying because being a BID would draw more shoppers to Pelham Bay. He's seeking the support of storeowners in nearby neighborhoods.
