A 38-year-old New Brunswick man was killed Sunday night in a hit-and-run crash, prompting a search for the vehicle involved.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and New Brunswick Police Department announced that emergency responders were dispatched to the intersection of Remsen Avenue and Seamen Street around 7:23 p.m. on Oct. 18 following a 911 call reporting that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.

Arriving officers found the victim, identified as Naim Chirino of New Brunswick. Chirino was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation confirmed that the vehicle fled the scene immediately after the collision.

Detectives with the New Brunswick Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Crash Investigation Unit have since identified a vehicle of interest: a silver 2011 Kia Soul with New Jersey license plate M32VNN. Law enforcement officers are attempting to locate the vehicle and identify the driver involved.
