A judge intervened to end a long-standing dispute Friday between the Paterson City Council and Mayor Jose Torres over what colors to paint a fleet of new police cars. The dispute began last November when the mayor clashed with City Council members over the paint jobs on 19 new police cars. The mayor favored red, white and blue while the City Council wanted black and white cars. The judge who decided the case called the dispute ?stupid? and ruled in favor of the red, white and blue color scheme.Paterson resident Nick Johnson says it makes no difference to him which color the cars are as long as police do their jobs. City Council members said they were trying to look out for taxpayers by making sure that colors don?t change with every new mayor, something they say would be costly.
