A Paterson man has been arrested in New York City in connection with a series of vehicle burglaries that targeted cars and airbags in Paterson earlier this year, according to police.

27-year-old Antony Arlequin-Salcedo is charged with 23 counts of theft and 22 counts of burglary, the Paterson Police Department announced.

The arrest follows an investigation into a string of vehicle burglaries in April in which vehicles were entered and airbags were among the items stolen, police said.

News 12 reported at the time that nearly 30 vehicles were broken into and two were stolen in Paterson. Many of the vehicles targeted were Hondas, with airbags removed from inside. The burglaries were reported along Crosby, Sherman and Totowa avenues.

Similar burglaries were reported that same night in Teaneck, where 13 vehicles were targeted. The Paterson Police Department's announcement did not say whether Arlequin-Salcedo is suspected in those incidents.

Police said detectives identified Arlequin-Salcedo during their investigation and developed evidence to charge him. The department did not provide details about his arrest in New York City or say when he was taken into custody.
