? The Bishop of Paterson wants an organization to be excluded from Morris County?s annual St. Patrick?s Day Parade because of its views on abortion.
Bishop Arthur Serratelli, who is new to the Paterson Diocese, sent a letter to pastors in the county asking them to ?express concern? about the National Organization for Women (NOW) to the parade coordinator. NOW advocates a woman?s right to choose abortion. Morris Township Mayor Robert Nance sits on the parade?s board of trustees and says the board has received less than 20 e-mails and letters on the issue. Organizers say the group is welcome to march with spiritual leaders and others in this year?s celebrations.
Members of the diocese say they will protest NOW being in the parade by withholding financial donations.
