Convicted sex offenders in New Jersey must abide by a strict curfew on Halloween.
For the third year in a row, the state parole board set Halloween restrictions for registered sex offenders. The 3,200 offenders must remain in their homes from 3 p.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday. The exceptions to the curfew will be those who have gotten approval from their parole officers to go to work. The offenders are also banned from distributing candy or trick-or-treating themselves.
To ensure sex offenders are following the restrictions, New Jersey state parole officers will be conducting random checks. Parole officers say any offender found to be having contact with a minor will be arrested on the spot.
