A Roxbury strip bar is the first bar or restaurant in Morris County to go to court for violating the recent smoking ban.
The owner of Smiles 2, on Route 46 in Ledgewood, was fined nearly $35,000 for breaking the smoking ban law. Health officials in Roxbury say customers of the bar tipped them off about the smoking violations.
According to the head of the health department, agents entered the bar more than 30 times over the course of several months. Health agents say they were told Smiles 2 was a cigar bar, but never received documentation. Health officials say a cigar bar is exempt from the smoking ban if the establishment can show proof it generates 15 percent of its revenue from tobacco product sales.
