A deadly shooting prompted the lockdown of Orange High School Thursday as police gathered evidence at a nearby house.
The Essex County Prosecutor?s office says officers found two people shot at 366 Clarendon Place around 1 p.m. A 52-year-old woman was killed and her 61-year-old companion is listed in critical condition at Newark?s University Hospital, according to authorities. While investigators are not revealing much about the case, witnesses say officials left the house with two bags of evidence.
Students at Orange High School, which is on the same street as the shooting, say they watched the incident unfold through classroom windows. Ninth-grader Tiffany Spates says she saw officers with their weapons drawn and a man running around a house. Other students say they knew very little about the incident, but sensed the urgency when the school was shut down.
