Police officers from around New Jersey gathered in Orange Saturday to mourn a brother in blue who was killed in the line of duty.
Family members, friends and city officials also packed the pews at St. Matthew's AME Church to pay their final respects to 32-year-old Kieran Shields. The detective is remembered as a family man and good cop. He leaves behind three children, a wife and his parents.
Raynard Brown, 19, allegedly gunned down Shields Monday night while the detective was investigating a report of shots fired. Many in the community say they are angry the suspected gang member was out on bail to allegedly commit another crime. Brown is now awaiting trial in jail on $3 million bail.
