(09/04/06) WAKEFIELD - Police say a Wakefield neighborhood was rocked by violence Monday morning when a man shot three people, then turned the gun on himself.
Police believe the incident began with a dispute between the suspect, Sheldon Harris, and a 24-year-old woman in the woman?s apartment. Neighbors say the pair were involved in a volatile relationship and often engaged in bitter arguments. However, neighbors say that bitterness turned violent when the man apparently opened fire on his girlfriend and two women who came to her aid. Police say Harris then turned the gun on himself.
All four were taken to the hospital where 53-year-old Joan Brown, believed to be the girlfriend?s mother, was pronounced dead. Harris is listed in stable condition at Jacobi Medical Center. The two other survivors are listed in critical condition. Harris is charged with murder, attempted murder and criminal use of a firearm.
