On the Scene: Broadway stars team up for ‘Gutenberg The Musical’; Gloria Gaynor to perform in Englewood

Two Broadway stars are teaming up again for a new musical comedy and an icon from the Garden State. Bringing the show home news, entertainment reporter John Bath on the scene tells us all about it. Josh Gad and Andrew Reynolds, the original stars of Book of Mormon are back together again in Gutenberg, the musical. They're in rehearsals now and we stopped by recently to speak with them about their new show. It is a comedy about two playwrights who try very ineptly to act out a performance of their own play for potential backers. It is based on Johannes Gutenberg who invented the printing press and who it turns out. They know very little about. Well, the two actors took Broadway by storm over a decade ago when they starred in the original cast of Book of Mormon for which they both received Tony Award nominations. Gad and Reynolds also share a lot of humor off stage as I discovered. Do you love working together? I love that he's accepted. He Andrew makes me laugh, acceptance but not celebration. Andrew makes me laugh more than anyone outside of my dog. Too late, Josh. Ok. Well, Gutenberg, the musical begins previews next Friday. It is a limited engagement with performances scheduled through January 28th. A star who is famous for singing one of the greatest songs of all time I will survive is appearing in New Jersey. Her home state. Of course, we're talking about Gloria Gaynor, born and raised in Newark with a voice that has taken her around the globe and back home again. She has a concert next weekend in Englewood. Yeah, everybody knows the words to this 11 of the great anthems of all time. Of course, I will survive. This song has taken her to something like 80 countries. I think she told me once to perform throughout her career and it won her a Grammy Award. I spoke with her at her home in Bergen County where we talked about her up in New Jersey and making new music. She put out a very acclaimed gospel album recently. That's very close to her heart. Gaynor says she is keeping her home state audience in mind as she gets ready for her show at Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood next Saturday the 16th for my home. Of course, I'm gonna do the songs that are closest to my heart. I'm gonna do the songs that I, I believe they're gonna wanna hear and that they will, will um will resonate most with them. So expect plenty of dance classics from the 19 seventies and eighties and some newer material as well. She says with, on the scene, I'm John Bay.
