State officials say that a boater who washed up at the Jersey Shore in his sailboat was kept out at sea by wind and a strong current.
A spokesperson for the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection says that the unidentified boater told officials that he left out of the Barnegat Inlet on July 6 and was taken out to sea by the wind and current. He was not able to navigate back to shore until Tuesday when the wind shifted.
Witnesses say that the sailboat came ashore at Island Beach State Park.
The boater was checked out by State Park Service EMTs and taken to for treatment. His condition was unclear.
