The New Jersey Forest Fire Service says crews are fighting a wildfire in Jackson Township.
The fire was reported near East Commodore Boulevard and Cedar Swamp Road. As of around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, the fire is impacting at least 50 acres.
Officials say that 30 structures are in danger. Local fire companies are providing protection, according to the Forest Fire Services. There are not any mandatory evacuations.
Officials say there are several closures in the area. Exit 21 on Interstate 195 is closed. East Commodore Boulevard is closed between Cedar Swamp Road and Jackson Mills Road. Cedar Swamp Road is closed between East Commodore Boulevard and Jackson Mills Road. Jackson Mills Road is closed between East Commodore Boulevard and Cedar Swamp Road.
“Forest Fire Service crews will utilize a backfiring operation to protect surrounding homes and burn fuel ahead of the main body of fire. Additionally, crews are constructing containment lines around the structures threatened,” officials wrote in a statement.
The fire comes as officials increased fire restrictions around the state.
Stage 3 restrictions are in place for northern and central New Jersey. This means no fires of any kind are permitted.
Stage 2 restrictions are in place for southern New Jersey. This means all fires in wooded areas will be prohibited unless they are in an elevated prepared fireplace.
