Elected officials are proposing an alternative to Con Edison's construction plan in Riverdale. Under Con Edison?s current plan, trenches would be dug in areas where businesses thrive and parking is limited. Instead, officials are proposing the power lines be built along the Major Deegan Expressway. Con Ed officials, however, says that plan will not work because officials from the state Department of Transportation and the New York State Thruway Authority will not allow use of the expressway.
