A possible meteorite struck a home in the Titusville section of Hopewell Township Monday afternoon.
The Hopewell Township Fire Department says that a rock-like object the size of an avocado left a hole the size of a grapefruit inside the home. It was apparently warm to the touch. They believe that the object is part of a meteorite.
One person was inside the home at the time but was not hurt.
It happened around 2:30 p.m. Monday. The daughter of the resident says that the object bounced around the room after it landed.
The Trenton Hazmat Team came out to make sure there was nothing dangerous to worry about. The house and the meteorite were deemed safe.
Experts from the College of New Jersey were also expected to come out to test the object.
According to the Smithsonian, the only person in recent history confirmed to be injured by a meteorite was a woman in Alabama in 1954.
News 12 is also looking into reports that other people heard a booming sound around 12:30 p.m. that could have been the meteor breaking up in the atmosphere.
