Officials say two officers were treated at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in Rahway following a hazmat call in Linden.
Police responded to West Edgar Road for a report of a chemical odor Friday night.
Officials say they couldn't find the source, but it remains under investigation by the state's Department of Environmental Protection.
The officers were treated and released. They returned to duty.
