A Glen Ridge police officer battling COVID-19 has died.
News 12 New Jersey first reported about Officer Charles “Rob” Roberts when he was saved by fellow officers last month when his heart stopped. Three fellow officers performed CPR to save his life.
The Glen Ridge Police Department announced the death on the department’s Facebook page. The department said that Roberts contracted the virus “in the line of duty.”

“Rob was an active member of the police department and he served the residents of Glen Ridge with distinction and honor, he lived a beautiful life and had a positive impact on everyone he touched. Words cannot express how sad we are, please continue to pray for him, his family, friends, and colleagues,” the Facebook post stated.
Officer Roberts served on the force for 20 years. A GoFundMe page has been set up for Roberts' family.
