Officials in Howell cut the ribbon for the newly renovated Emergency Management Annex building on Windeler Road.
The building previously had no floors, heating or lighting and was used primarily as a storage space.
Development of the EMS Annex has been in the works for many years.
The new annex will offer indoor housing for ambulances and provide office space and a training room for workers.
"The police department’s EMS service for the station at the police department where they were parked in the parking lot in very cramped quarters with no cover … this building offered them an opportunity to get out of the weather, to respond from their own dedicated location and to have a training facility here as a space to do their reporting and other features of the EMS service," says Jim Herrman, Deputy Township manager.
The new facility intends to decrease wear and tear on emergency vehicles and provide a break room with showers and bathrooms for emergency workers.
