Crews from New Jersey and New York worked on a small brush fire Friday in Mahwah. The fire has been completely put out, according to officials. News 12 New Jersey was told crews continued working on putting out hot spots Friday morning.

News 12 was told the fire potentially started burning Thursday night into early Friday morning. Crews may have missed the fire due to the smoke and haziness in the sky Thursday.

Scientists say the dry conditions aren't making wildfires more common, but it's helping them burn faster and spiral out of control easier.
