Three senior citizens are dead and several first responders were injured following a Friday night fire in a two-family home in Clifton.
Officials say the incident took place around 7:30 p.m. at 29 Ladwick Lane. The Clifton Fire Department responded to the scene.
Officials say the three people who died in the house fire were a 65-year-old man, a 71-year-old woman and a 92-year-old woman.
There was a fourth person involved and they were taken to St. Joseph's University Medical Center where they are in stable condition.
A resident who spoke with News 12 New Jersey said she witnessed the fire from her window as her neighbors were pulled from the burning building.
She added that fire fighters could not get in because there was no visibility due to the heavy smoke.
Residents said they are saddened to learn that some of their neighbors didn't make it out.
"It was just really sad to see it all unfold,” said Carolina Zapata. "...I was hoping everyone got out. That doesn't seem to have been the case."
According to officials, two firefighters and one police officer suffered smoke inhalation and minor injuries. They were released from the hospital Saturday morning. A third firefighter who suffered burns to the face was also released.
The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
