Three people were hurt Thursday morning during a small explosion at the Union County Utilities Authority in Rahway, according to officials.

Authorities say the explosion took place during routine maintenance at the facility, which is operated by Reworld Waste.

The three people injured were employees of Reworld and North American Explosive.

They were treated on the scene of the accident.

Officials say operations at the facility have since resumed.
