Officials: 2nd child has died from flu complications in New Jersey
Another child has died from influenza-related complications in New Jersey this flu season, according to the state Department of Health.
The New Jersey Department of Health confirmed on Friday that flu was a contributing factor in the death of a toddler from the northern part of the state. Health officials did not release exactly where the child was from, or if there were any other contributing health factors.
Officials say that the child died earlier this month.
“Flu activity remains high throughout the state. Getting the flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones from the illness,” New Jersey Health Commissioner Dr. Shereef Elnahal said in a statement.
This is the second child who has died from flu complications this flu season. The first pediatric flu death was a child in central New Jersey who died in late December.
More information about the flu vaccine can be found on the CDC website.
