7ds agoNews 12 New Jersey has learned that Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez is under investigation.
A spokesperson for the senator says, "Senator Menendez is aware of an investigation that was reported on today, however, he does not know the scope of the investigation. As always, should any official inquiries be made, the Senator is available to provide any assistance that is requested of him or his office."
It is currently unclear what the investigation is regarding.
Published reports have indicated that the investigation is being conducted by federal prosecutors in New York.
A spokesperson for the United States Attorney’s Office Southern District of New York tells News 12 that they cannot confirm or deny an investigation.
Menendez was previously indicted on corruption charges in April 2015. He pleaded not guilty. The trial ended in a hung jury. The charges were eventually dismissed.
