Daily reported cases of COVID-19 in Ocean County are some of the highest in the state and county health officials are now waiting for guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about vaccine booster shots.
Out of the 262 cases of the virus reported on Tuesday, about 20% were breakthrough cases. The county Health Department says that while the numbers may seem high, it is evidence that vaccines are working. The county is also adding new vaccination clinics in preparation for booster shots.
"We are going to be rolling out, in two weeks, 50 more sites around the county. Every day of the week - weekdays, weeknights, weekends - any resident of Ocean County can get a shot probably within a mile or two of their home,” says Ocean County Public Health Coordinator Dan Regenye.
Ocean County has one of the lowest rates of fully vaccinated people in the state. Regenye says that there has been a slight increase in the number of people getting their first shot.
