An Oak Ridge couple is outraged after discovering that someone shot their dog who got spooked during a storm.
Don and Lori Bakelaar say their golden retriever bolted from the backyard Tuesday night and their yellow Labrador followed. The dogs wandered almost two miles from home to a plant nursery. The owner, Grace Wargo, says she found the Labrador, which was having difficulty breathing. Wargo contacted the Bakelaars from information on the dog?s tag.
A vet told the couple Wednesday that the Labrador was shot twice by a pellet gun. The Bakelaars made the hard choice to put her down. Jefferson Township police urge anyone with information about the shooting to contact them at 973-697-1300.
