Three strikes is all one local lawmaker wants to give some unsanitary grocery stores in the Bronx. Rat droppings, urine and gnaw marks on food are just some of the health violations reported in unsanitary grocery stores. New York State Senator Jeff Klein (D-BX/WC) says some supermarkets have failed health inspections up to six times. Two of the filthiest are in the Bronx. Klein says Rodrigues Meat Market on East 184th Street and African Market on Faile Street are among the worst. He says unsanitary supermarkets are a health risk to Bronx residents. According to Klein?s findings, nearly 160 supermarkets citywide failed three or more consecutive inspections. He wants to pass legislation that would force supermarkets with more than three consecutive inspections failures to close down.
