The ongoing intense heat is the latest factor to impact New Jersey Transit service this summer.
The agency said it is experiencing rail equipment issues due to the temperatures in the state. This means delays and possible cancellations.
A message posted on the NJ Transit website states, “We are experiencing heat-related rail equipment issues to the air-conditioning/electronic components due to the extreme & excessive temps. As a result, customers may experience delays and it may be necessary to cancel/combine select trips for the next 48-72 hours. Our rail maintenance crews are working diligently to make repairs & restore equipment as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
This is not the first heat-related hiccup transit service has experienced this summer.
Amtrak, the company that owns the tracks NJ Transit uses, says extreme heat causes overhead wires to expand, which can impact service.
Temperatures in New Jersey reached the mid-90s on Wednesday and reached above 100 on Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to cool slightly by the end of the week.
