The memories of those who lost their lives seven years ago during the attacks on the World Trade Center were commemorated throughout the Garden State on Thursday.
Middletown lost 37 residents during the attacks. Many gathered in the Memorial Gardens Thursday, just a few blocks away from the train station many victims used on Sept. 11 to get to their jobs in Manhattan. The garden has a path lined with stones, one for each of the departed.
An annual remembrance ceremony was held Thursday evening, followed by a chance for family members and loved ones to walk through the garden.
Many also took part in the Jersey City Sept. 11 memorial called "Reflections," which was attended by Mayor Jeremiah Healey. Healey , along with the mother of a Sept. 11 victim, tossed a ?Freedom Wreath? into the Hudson River.
At Ground Zero, the names of the 2,751 victims were read, and four moments of silence were held to represent the times the planes hit the World Trade Center and the moments when each tower fell. Representatives from 90 countries took part in the ceremony.
