A 22-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years in state prison after kidnapping and sexual assaulting a woman in a dormitory at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Florham Park in April 2023, Morris County prosecutors announced.
Officials say Jayshawn Moore, who was not affiliated with the university, knew the woman, forced her into a dorm room and then assaulted her for hours. It is alleged that he was armed with a knife.
An aggregate sentence of 15 years was imposed for Moore in state prison, subject to 85% parole ineligibility pursuant to the No Early Release Act.
Moore, of Jersey City, previously entered guilty pleas on Oct. 25, 2023, to first degree kidnapping and first degree aggravated sexual assault. Moore had been detained in the Morris County Correctional Facility following his arrest in Elizabeth on April 11, 2023.
As part of his sentencing, Moore will be required to register as sex offender under Megan’s Law and will be subject to parole supervision for life. He was also ordered to have no contact with the victim.
