The Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) in Hasbrouck Heights is getting national attention as the Amazon Prime series, "The College Tour," films on campus, which is also the first time the show has featured a trade school.
Campus executive De’Kylan Jordan said the filming has generated plenty of excitement among students and staff.
“We get to work with them one on one, just to make sure that everything they need is taken care of. So even the student body is excited they’re here. They just want to know what’s going on and are curious,” Jordan said.
He added that the national spotlight could highlight both the program and the growing opportunities in aircraft maintenance.
“For those who are looking for a nontraditional college route, those who are really interested in the school and really interested to become an aircraft mechanic, to see that, hey, it’s possible,” Jordan said. “We’re here to assist them along their journey. So it’s exciting.”
Ten AIM students will be featured in 10 segments for the episode. Among them is student Jane Isabelle Anane, who said she hopes the visibility helps others see what is possible in the field.
“You don’t really hear, 'Hey, like, I’m a maintenance tech,' you know? So, I think it is definitely interesting. And I mean, for me, being a female of color and obviously being in the school. I’m very mechanical, with my hands, doing this is definitely like a passion for me,” she said.
The episode of The College Tour featuring AIM is scheduled to air next June.
