Man fatally shot by police wanted in Florida for murder; attorney general investigating

Neighbors say they heard gunfire on Jefferson Avenue where police and U.S. Marshals blocked off the area.

New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin is investigating a fatal police-involved shooting over the weekend in Jersey City that happened less than a mile from an elementary school.
The man who was fatally shot by police in Jersey City was wanted in Florida for murder and attempted murder. Members of the United States Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force were in Jersey City to help execute the warrant from Orlando.
At around 11 p.m., officials say the Marshals encountered the man near Jefferson. The man was then wounded and transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he died. The man’s identity is not being released at this time.
The attorney general says a civilian was also wounded.
Neighbors say they heard gunfire on Jefferson Avenue where police and U.S. Marshals blocked off the area. They had bullet proof vests and shields.
Police say the investigation is still active.
