Newly-renovated PATH train station opens in Harrison

It's an exciting day for PATH commuters. A new station house in Harrison opened to the public on Wednesday, replacing a nearly century-old structure.
At its peak in 2019, 2.6 million customers used Harrison Station, according to PATH officials. They are hoping the number of customers will rise.
The station house opened in 1936. Over the years, it has become outdated and inaccessible for people with mobility issues.
The new modern accessible PATH station house includes several amenities, including updated payment systems, an elevator, a plaza with seating and bike parking.
Some commuters told News 12 New Jersey that there is now a safer way for people to cross the busy Frank E Rodgers Boulevard.
"That station will save us from having to cross from that side of the street where most of the parking is," said Mario Merlino, a commuter from South Orange.
Cedric Boadi, of Harrison, says
"Thanks for drivers in the community for giving us the chance to cross when we could. Cause some of us live straight down there, some of us go around the corner and it makes up easier to get where we are going for our commute."
A ribbon-cutting was held at the new station house. It opened to the public at 3 p.m.
