Newburgh woman charged after dog allegedly abandoned in empty apartment

A City of Newburgh woman is facing animal abandonment charges after authorities say she moved out of her apartment and allegedly abandoned her dog, leaving it behind.
Hudson Valley SPCA Humane Law Enforcement says the dog was left alone inside the Carpenter Avenue apartment for two days without food or water before it was seized on Aug. 4.
Video provided to News 12 by the SPCA shows the dog inside the apartment surrounded by feces and with severely matted hair.
Aury Salinas has now been charged with two counts of animal abandonment under New York state law.
SPCA Humane Law Enforcement says Salinas faces up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine on each count.
She is due in City of Newburgh Court on Oct. 6.
