Newark?s mayor signed seven executive orders on ethics reform Wednesday, which will spell big changes for politicians.
The new code of ethics is Mayor Corey Booker?s way to keep campaign fundraising and political contributions in check. Under the new reform, political contributions from city employees to the mayor are banned. The measures also put an end to campaign fundraising on public property in addition to creating an inspector general to investigate all City Hall corruption.
The executive orders will take effect January 1. Two of the orders still require ordinances by the City Council. While some Council members support the reforms, others think they impede fundraising too much.
