Newark police: 4 killed, 1 critically injured in fiery multiple car crash

Police say four people were killed and a fifth person was critically hurt in a collision involving multiple cars in Newark early Saturday morning.

Police say four people were killed and a fifth person was critically hurt in a collision involving multiple cars in Newark early Saturday morning.
Police responded to a call for a fiery crash on Frelinghuysen Avenue between Thorne Street and Evergreen Avenue. They say two cars crashed into a parked tractor trailer and erupted in flames around 4:20 a.m.
Firefighters responded to extinguish the cars and rescued four victims who were trapped. All four victims later succumbed to their injuries while a fifth was rushed to University Hospital in critical condition.
Neighbors and eyewitnesses told News 12 New Jersey that the cars may have been driving from a nearby bar. They also said that speeding in the roadways where the accident occurs frequently.
One distraught family member told News 12 New Jersey her niece who was one of the people killed in the accident was out celebrating her birthday.
