Impending stormy weather is causing delays and cancellations at Newark Liberty International Airport.
Travelers were lined up inside Terminal B on Thursday trying to rebook flights that were canceled or delayed due to the weather.
“It’s getting out of hand, but hopefully we’ll get home tonight,” said Maryann Olden, of Florida.
The unstable weather this summer has many travelers frustrated. This is coupled with many airlines also going through their own struggles such as staffing issues.
“This morning when I went to the airport in Santo Domingo, I got the message from United that the flight from Newark to Asheville, North Carolina was canceled because of the weather. Now I can see the sun outside. Nobody can explain to me,” said Cornell Drajan.
Airlines started to cancel flights earlier in the day on Thursday, despite no severe weather in New Jersey at the time. Newark Liberty saw more than 340 delays and almost 140 cancellations.
“We were delayed several hours in Japan, and then thought we would still make our connection here and the gate was full of and there was an aircraft there… We sat on the tarmac for another 40 minutes,” said traveler Brian Bauer.
Another traveler told News 12 that she spent 24 hours at an airport and was having flashbacks at Newark Liberty as she tried to catch a flight to Florida.
Travelers are always urged to arrive at the airport early and to check with their airline about the status of their flights.
