The Newark Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, has set a record for the number of arrests to take place in one month.
The team arrested 127 immigration violators and wanted criminals throughout New Jersey during the month of July. The team is based in downtown Newark and is the third most successful in terms of arrests.
ICE has made 1,300 arrests in 2007. The team ranks behind Los Angeles and Miami in terms of successful arrests and active teams.
ICE officials say they also work with local law enforcement officials to find out if criminals already behind bars are illegal immigrants.
Due to its success rate, the ICE team is growing and will likely put more immigration violators, fugitives and criminals behind bars.
